Former customer arrears

If your tenancy has ended with outstanding arrears, we will work with you to agree a plan that that works for you and your finances.

Arrears

If you have arrears from a former tenancy, it may stop you from being a Gentoo customer in the future. This is regardless of when your tenancy ended.

If you are in financial hardship and find it difficult to pay your arrears, we will work with you to set up a payment plan that that works for you and your finances.

If you do not pay former customer arrears

If you do not pay any outstanding debts when your tenancy has ended, we may:

  • use our own recovery procedures
  • take you to small claims court and you may have to pay court costs
  • instruct your employer to deduct money directly from your salary
  • refer your case to a debt collection agency
  • use a tracing agency to find out where you live if you do not leave a forwarding address, which will be recorded in your credit history

If you do not pay outstanding debts in full, including rent, court costs or repair costs, you will be suspended from our housing register until your outstanding debts are cleared.
