What is a Energy Performance Certificate? (EPC)

An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) measures the energy efficiency of your home and rates it on a scale, with A being the most energy efficient to G being the least efficient. We complete EPC surveys in order to provide you with a warm, comfortable home that is affordable to heat.

What happens during a energy assessment appointment?

A suitable appointment will be made for an energy surveyor from our Stock Condition and Energy Surveying Team to attend your home. Gentoo colleagues will always show you an ID card before entering your home. Do not let anyone into your home if you are unsure in any way.

Our surveyors will need access to all rooms in your home, including the loft, in order to measure the room sizes and ceiling height. Our surveyors will assess key elements in your home including:

  • doors, heating systems, lighting, windows, insulation,
  • your home’s construction type, size and height of ceilings

This is a visual inspection so there is no need to move any furniture. Our surveyors will need to take photos during the survey but not of personal possessions. This is to ensure we are compliant with the Energy Performance of Building Regulations 2012.

Surveys take approximately an hour to complete.

Please be aware our energy surveyors can only report Housing Health and Safety Rating issues and not general repairs. To report a general repair, please call 0191 525 5000.

What happens after an energy assessment appointment?

Once all necessary areas of your home have been assessed, our surveyors will use their reports to calculate an EPC rating for your home. You will be able to view your EPC certificate on the government website at: www.gov.uk/find-energy-certificate
