We're delighted to announce we have completed the replacement of the district heating system in Albany and Oxclose.
Working with partners from Equans, over 949 properties across Washington have benefited from the installation of a new gas combi boiler following the decommission of the old heating system.
New energy efficient combi-boilers have been installed for Gentoo customers, leaseholders and freeholders who were previously connected to the district heating system. The new boilers are highly efficient, compact and easy for customers to control the heating in their home.
Following feedback from our customers and residents in Washington, we made the decision to replace the district heating system due to problems with the aging boiler houses and as part of our investment into the energy efficiency of customers’ homes.
Working with partners from Scottish Power and Greener Energy Solutions, new gas meters were fitted in customer’s and resident's homes to allow the new boilers to be installed.
Gentoo customer Caroline Brown received a new boiler as part of the scheme. She said: “I was pleased with the decision to replace the old district heating system. I received a brand-new boiler which is so much easier to use. The heating works better and heats my home quicker. It was difficult to control the heating with the old system. The service from Gentoo and Equans was brilliant and the staff from Equans showed me how to use the new boiler and answered any questions I had.”
Peter Akers, Director of Asset and Sustainability at Gentoo said: “We are delighted to announce work has now been complete to replace the old district heating system in Washington. The heating system was outdated and causing problems for our customers. Thanks to our partnership with Equans, our customers will benefit from brand new, efficient boilers. We are dedicated to improving the energy efficiency of our customers homes and delighted to hear our customers in Washington are already seeing the benefits of their new boilers, including being able to easily control their heating and having warmer homes.”
Krystian Szpunar, Project Manager at Gentoo said: “It’s brilliant that we are now able to mark the end of the Washington district heating replacement scheme. We have overcome many challenges to deliver the scheme successfully for hundreds of residents. Our customers are at the heart of everything we do at Gentoo and delivering this scheme for our customers alongside our partners has been the priority of our dedicated teams.”
Darren Stirling, Regional Director at Equans said: “Ensuring that every household has access to a warm and comfortable home is essential. We are pleased these upgrades have been completed. Families living in Washington are now empowered with greater flexibility and control over their heating, allowing them to manage their homes in a way that best suits their needs.”
Following the completion of the new boiler installations, work has begun to decommission all 33 redundant boiler houses throughout Washington and is expected to be complete by summer 2025.
