This week, we were delighted to welcome Homes England to Sunderland.
Senior figures from Homes England visited Gentoo this week to meet the team and visit a selection of sites where we are delivering more affordable housing for Sunderland.
Shahi Islam, Homes England Director of Affordable Housing and Dilys Jones, Homes England Associate Director of affordable housing Growth – were welcomed to Sunderland by our executive team and were shown around Gentoo sites in the city, including Cricketers Hill, where 115 new homes are being built with the first customers set to move in this summer.
We plan to deliver 738 new affordable homes across the region by 2029 across a range of mixed tenure developments and have submitted a planning application to deliver 294 affordable homes at Chester Gate in Pennywell. We continue to be committed to building more sustainable properties, with all new builds constructed to EPC A energy rating.
Louise Bassett, Gentoo chief executive commented:
“We were delighted to welcome the Homes England team to Sunderland this week. We have 19000 people on our waiting list for a home and we have significant ambition above and beyond our current development plans to provide great homes in the region to meet this customer demand. Support from partners like Homes England is invaluable, as we deliver against this ambition.”
With 28,500 homes and 60,000 customers, we remain the largest housing association in England to receive the highest C1 grading in Consumer Standards from the Regulator of Social Housing.
We are also members of the North East Housing Partnership.
