We have welcomed 28 apprentices to the organisation this week, which is the biggest intake the organisation has seen since forming in 2001.
The impressive recruitment was thanks to its apprentice open day in April held at its head office where colleagues welcomed over 480 potential candidates to come and speak to the team and find out more information about an apprenticeship with Gentoo.
This year’s recruitment drive saw us offer a range of roles, including popular trade roles in electrical, gas, plumbing and joinery, and its in-demand housing and business admin roles. It also gave applicants the opportunity to apply for brand new job roles in Engineering Technician (Building Services) and Construction Support Technician (Surveying - Damp Inspection).
Hannah Jackson, who has just started her joinery apprentice, said: “I’m really looking forward to starting my apprenticeship. This week I’ve already been on the van with my mentor and met lots of new people. I chose Gentoo for my apprenticeship as it’s a values-led organisation and it’s a really welcoming place to work.”
Louise Bassett, chief executive officer at Gentoo, said: “I am delighted to welcome our brand-new apprentices to the organisation. It’s such an exciting time to join Gentoo and I’m really happy to welcome our new colleagues to be part of our journey. I’m sure each and every one of them will have successful careers here at Gentoo.”
The group of new colleagues spent the first week at Gentoo getting to know the colleagues they will be working with and learning more about the organisation’s vision and purpose. They also attended an apprentice celebration event at Nissan Sports and Social Club with current and past apprentices.
The colleagues took part in a range of team building activities and had the chance to get to know the current and past apprentices and find out more about the journey they are about to embark on.
Amy Murphy, a previous apprentice at Gentoo who is now a People Support Assistant in the HR team, said: “I was struck by how driven and committed both new and current apprentices are at the beginning of their journey. I believe this is a valuable attitude for us to have throughout our careers.
“Gentoo, in my opinion, is a fantastic organisation that’s embodies this and is driven to shaping the future.”
Since we were founded in 2001, we have created 353 apprenticeship opportunities with over 90% successfully completing their apprenticeship with the Group.
The Group opens its apprenticeship applications process in Spring every year for anyone over the age of 16. For more information, click here to view our careers page.
