Free activities and places kids can eat free during the summer holidays

The summer holidays are here and there’s plenty going on in Sunderland!
From free activities and events and places to eat and drink, we’ve put together a list of things going on to keep the family busy this summer…

  • The Secret Garden, Ford Estate 

The Secret Garden in Ford Estate is a community hub perfect for a family afternoon out. They are hosting a number of free events across July including:

Sunday 28 July, 10:30am – 12:30pm
Ice cream Sunday. Pick your own organic strawberries and receive a free ice cream from the ice cream man! (serving between 11am-12pm)
Arrive early to avoid disappointment!

Wednesday 31 July, 11am – 2pm.
Theatre Space North East are taking over the garden and taking you on a magical journey through interactive story-telling, There will be two showings both including a smudge-stick making workshop.
Sandwiches, cake and refreshments provided!

  • Stack Seaburn

Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday during the summer holidays, the Stack, Seaburn are hosting free kids events featuring beloved children's characters, an interactive disco, party games, colouring, and more. All events are from 12pm – 2pm.

  • Active Sunderland free tennis sessions

Active Sunderland are delivering free family tennis sessions on brand new tennis courts across the city this summer starting Monday 22 July. There’s no need to book, all equipment is provided so just turn up! Times and locations are listed below, for more information, please visit:https://clubspark.lta.org.uk/SunderlandParksTennis

  • Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens

History Mondays: Drop in sessions from 11am – 12:30pm and 1:30pm to 3pm every Monday from 22 July to 19 August.

Bees and Butterflies Garden trail and crafts: Wednesday 24 July, drop in session from 1pm- 3pm.

Bug hunting in the community garden: Wednesday 14 August, drop in session from 1pm – 3pm.

Ecofest Sunderland: Saturday 5 October, drop in from 10am – 3pm.

Sunderland Arts & Culture Trail

Sunderland Arts & Culture Trail is happening in Sunderland between 5 July and 21 July 2024.

Together for Children Holiday Programme

Starting Monday 22 July, Together for Children’s Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme launches in Sunderland, offering fun activities and nutritious meals during the school holidays in various areas across the city.

Kids can eat for £1.99, Monday - Friday at Grannie Annies in Roker with no adult spend.

Pausa Cafe, Dunlem

Hylton Riverside
Kids get one main meal, two snacks and a drink for free with every £4 adult spend, all day, everyday.

The Wolsey

Millem Terrace, Roker
Kids eat free all day, everyday with every adult purchasing a main meal.

Sizzling Pubs

As part of Sizzling Pubs, The Hollymere and the Grange Hotel offer kids to eat for £1 with every adult meal Monday-Friday from 3pm.

Harvester
Ryhope road
Kids eat for £1, Monday - Friday until 30 August. Voucher can be accessed via the Harvester app

Morrisons Café
Doxford Park
Whitburn Road, Seaburn
Kids under 16 can eat for free with every adult purchase over £5, all day, everyday. Anyone can also get a free bowl of Kellogg’s cereal from 15 July - 4 August.

Toby Carvery
Barnes Park, Sunderland
Kids eat for £1, Monday to Friday with every adult meal purchased until 30 August.

Tesco Café
Newcastle Road
Kids eat free with any adult purchase when dining with a Clubcard, Monday - Friday until 30 August.

The Hastings Hill
Chester Road, Grindon
Kids eat free all day, everyday with every adult purchasing a main meal.

Asda Café
Leechmere Road
Kids eat for £1 all day, everyday with no adult spend required.

Oak Tree Farm
Doxford Park
As part of Farmhouse Inns, kids receive a free scoop of ice cream, sorbet or frozen yogurt with every kids meal.
