Work progresses on our latest development, Wellspring Park

Work is progressing on our latest housing development, Wellspring Park, which is being built in Town End Farm.

Working in partnership with Equans, the development consisting of 71 new homes, is on track to launch the sales of homes next month.

The site, that has been awarded grant funding by Homes England, is made up of 71 two-, three- and four-bedroom houses and two-bedroom bungalows, with most of the properties being available for affordable rent and some available for Shared Ownership.

Wellspring Park is part of the Group’s wider £165 million Affordable Home Programme, offering new, modern and energy efficient homes for affordable rent which is 20% less than market value rent.

As part of the Group’s dedication to carbon reduction, each of the new homes have been built with sustainable technology and feature air source heat pumps, smart meters, full fill cavity wall insulation and electric vehicle charging points.

Gentoo is also supporting residents with an affordable home ownership option, offering a proportion of the new homes through Shared Ownership. The government backed scheme allows aspiring homeowners to buy an affordable share from 25% to 75% of a high quality, brand new two- or three-bedroom home.

Shared Ownership makes it easier to get onto the property ladder through smaller deposits and lower mortgage repayments.

Joanne Gordon, Development Director at Gentoo Group said:

"Gentoo is committed to addressing the affordable homes shortage in Sunderland through the supply of new, high-quality and energy efficient housing, delivering a range of tenures including affordable rent and Shared Ownership."

Louise Buckton, New Build Director at Equans, said:

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Gentoo to deliver the high-quality Wellspring Park development. As well as giving Sunderland residents more housing options, utilising modern carbon reduction technologies such as Air Source Heat Pumps, cavity wall insulation and EV charging points will help them reduce their carbon footprint and save money on their energy bills.”

Cllr Graeme Miller, Leader of Sunderland City Council, said:

“High quality housing for everyone in Sunderland is a priority for this City Council and we are pleased to be working with Gentoo as it continues with its ambitious programme for bringing hundreds of new and more affordable homes to the city. Building new and more sustainable homes not only gives residents more and better quality housing options, but also helps to contribute to a more dynamic, healthy and vibrant Sunderland.”
