We're expanding our Property Maintenance Team

We're pleased to announce we are expanding our Property Maintenance Team. The announcement comes after the introduction of the new Fire Safety (England) Regulations earlier this year and the amendments to the Social Housing Bill for damp and mould.

A number of the vacancies will further enhance the team that was set up late last year to help prevent and treat condensation, damp and mould in tenants’ homes. The vacancies have been created at a time when there is a spotlight on the condition of social housing stock. Earlier this year, the government announced it was making changes to the Social Housing Bill to introduce strict new time limits for social housing landlords to investigate and fix damp and mould.

The new team will carry out work linked to the new Fire Safety (England) Regulations that was introduced earlier this year. The act states that Gentoo must carry out annual inspections of flat entrance doors and quarterly inspections of all communal fire doors. Gentoo has 25 high-rise residential buildings that must meet the requirements of the new act.

Amongst the vacancies is the newly created role of an Empty Property Officer. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the effective delivery of the void process and ensure quality standards are met to maximise rental income. Other vacancies include a Repairs Manager, Joiner, Bricklayer, Plumber and Electrician.

Gentoo’s success is down to its people, that’s why each vacancy comes with a range of benefits including; 39 days holiday (including bank holidays and birthday leave), a cash healthcare plan, pension scheme, 36 hour working week and a work van and tools (where applicable).

James Haste, Director of Property Maintenance at Gentoo Group said:

“Gentoo is committed to investing in its colleagues to ensure we can provide our tenants with safe and decent homes. In each of these roles, colleagues have an opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of our 60,000 tenants.

“Last year, the Property Maintenance teams carried out more than 159,000 repairs and safety inspections, with 98% of those repairs completed right first time.

“At a time where job security is crucial, there isn’t a better time to join one of the largest employers in Sunderland. We currently have a range of exciting roles available to apply for all which come with great benefits.”
