Gentoo welcomes tenants to their new homes in Leeway Green

We are delighted to have cut the ribbon and opened our new development, Leeway Green in the Carley Hill area of Sunderland last week.

Working in partnership with Esh Construction, the £3.9 million development consisting of 24 new homes is complete and we are now welcoming tenants into their new neighbourhood.

The development is part of our £165 million Affordable Homes Programme, offering new, modern homes to let for affordable rent which is 20% less than market value rent.

Leeway Green is the seventh site to open as part of our commitment to deliver 1200 affordable homes across Sunderland over the next five years. The development consists of 6 two-bedroom bungalows, 16 two- bedroom houses and 2 three-bedroom houses which have all been built with the latest, energy efficient technology.

As part of the Group's commitment to carbon reduction, each of the new homes are 70% carbon neutral and include air source heat pumps, high performance windows, full-fill insulation, and electric car charging points. These energy efficient features mean the new tenants will benefit from lower energy bills.

Joanne Gordon, Development Director at Gentoo Group, said:

“I’m delighted we can now welcome tenants into our stylish, high quality and environmentally friendly homes at Leeway Green.

These homes have been created with the tenant at the heart of every decision, from reduced, affordable rent to spacious, modern designs and energy efficient features to keep energy bills low. These features are as important as ever in the current cost of living crisis and we’re confident these homes will improve the quality of life of tenants who live here.”

Mark Binns, Operations Director at Esh Construction, said:

“We are pleased to officially mark the handover at Leeway Green and the first time Esh has delivered affordable housing in partnership with Gentoo Group. We are passionate about leaving a legacy in the areas of our construction projects and throughout this scheme we have delivered a range of social value initiatives, including, volunteering and tree planting, donations to Gentoo’s crisis fund and a local foodbank collection, along with the delivery of careers sessions in three local schools.”
