Assistant Quantity Surveyor
About the role of Assistant Quantity Surveyor
We currently have a rare opportunity for an experienced Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join Gentoo’s Asset Property Investment team. This is a great time to join us as we continue with our ambitious and exciting 5-year investment plan, delivering over £ 240m worth of planned improvements to our customer's homes. The Asset Management delivery team are based at our Sunderland head office at Doxford Park. Led by the Contracts Manager the team includes a Senior Quantity Surveyor, Quantity Surveyor, Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Asset Delivery Co-ordinator, Project Managers, Project Surveyors and Client customer liaison officers. This role will report into the team’s Senior Quantity Surveyor and play a key part ensuring the Group delivers the investment plan (circa £ 42m pa) and achieves value for money while meeting KPIs. In the role of Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for the financial management, coordination and reporting of a number of the Group’s planned investment schemes annually. This role will be responsible for assisting in the management of all commercial matters in connection with the delivery of Gentoo Groups planned investment programme. You will lead on the effective commercial and financial management of Gentoo’s planned, compliance and sustainability related investment programmes, of which you are allocated. This will include the provision of accurate and timely pre-contract documentation with the Asset Planning and Strategy team, tender valuations, accurate budget forecasting, post quantity surveying duties, managing the purchase order process and ensuring the payment of contractors in a timely manner. This will include implementing and administering the most appropriate forms of contract for project values and work types to offer Gentoo the most advantageous contract terms. Liaise with a wide range of Gentoo teams including Planning and Building Surveying, Customer Voice, Health and Safety, Communications, Procurement, Leasehold, Risk and Insurance and Housing colleagues to assist you in this role. In addition to this, we have appointed the services of external Principal Designers (CDM and BSA), Consultants and Principal Contractors. Supported by the Contracts Manager, Senior Quantity Surveyor, Quantity Surveyor, Assistant Quantity Surveyor, Project managers, Project Surveyors and Customer Liaison Officers and an Asset Delivery Co-Ordinator.
Business Services Assistant

We are currently recruiting for a Business Services Assistant to join the Planning and Business Services (Property) team, for a 6-month period to cover maternity leave. The role is based within our Repairs team who are responsible for delivering a comprehensive customer focused service, including administrative support, customer contact and collaborating with colleagues as needed. The role is subject to a basic DBS paid for by Gentoo. Key responsibilities will include the following, a full job description is available upon request. Complete administrative and data input activities in line with agreed processes and ways of working ensuring a customer focused approach and delivery of an excellent customer experience. Take calls from colleagues from across business departments, including Operatives Call Handling and Housing to resolve customer queries in the most efficient and effective manner. Pro-actively contact customers to schedule and arrange appointments as needed. Demonstrate ownership and responsibility of customer issues.

The team is part of our Regulatory and Business Services directorate, based at our Doxford Park, Sunderland head office, where you will be responsible for supporting the team to help deliver a first-class governance and regulatory compliance function. In the role of Governance Assistant, you will respond to a wide range of queries from Board Members and Executive Directors, as well as provide administrative support to the wider team, delivering outstanding customer service at all times. This is an opportunity for someone looking to further develop their existing skills and experience within a governance and regulatory compliance environment. Experience in a governance or regulatory environment is preferable, however, what is more important is a willingness to learn and a flexible, ‘can do’ attitude. It is essential you can demonstrate strong organisation and administrative skills including effective minute-taking, possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to quickly build rapport with customers, both internal and external. You will have excellent communication skills, as well as the ability to effectively plan your workload and be flexible to meet targets and deadlines. In the role of Project Manager, you will play a leading role and be responsible for the operational and financial management, coordination and reporting of around a third of the Group’s planned investment schemes annually. Ensuring the Group delivers the investment plan (circa £ 42m pa)m achieves value for money, while meeting KPIs and delivering a quality service to our Customers. • Management responsibility for the projects allocated to you across all disciplines of project management. With responsibility for their success from implementation to completion, incorporating all aspects of programming, quality and specification compliance, health and safety and customer satisfaction. • Lead a small team which consists of a Project Surveyor and Client Customer Liaison Officer. • Interact, input, and contribute during the planning stages of each scheme to ensure a smooth delivery once the schemes become “live” and are managed directly by you and your team, via our appointed Principal Contractors. • Liaise with a wide range of Gentoo teams including Planning and Building Surveying, Customer Voice, Health and Safety, Communications, Procurement, Leasehold, Risk and Insurance and Housing colleagues to assist you in this role. This will may include responsive, void or cyclical works delivered by sub-contractors within the maintenance department or planned investment, sustainability of compliance schemes ensuring full ownership of all financial matters to the schemes appointed to you. • Ensure commercial risk is effectively managed, reduced and mitigated where possible ensuring, payments made reflect Gentoo's obligations under the contract and in line with Commercial Procedure, advising on contract strategies to reduce risk and improve performance. • Support the effective planning and delivery of the Groups spend with contractors across the Property Directorate to maximise efficiencies, value for money and the gentoo pound. • Work collaboratively and manage relationships with suppliers ensuring appropriate management and liaison with internal and external stakeholders including Gentoo’s appointed contractors. • Have direct responsibility for the financial management, including the raising of purchase orders and request for payments, for the projects allocated to you as the appointed Quantity Surveyor. • On-going, effective and respectful challenge of variations and proposed cost increases as well as carrying out re-measures of ongoing and completed works ensuring financial validation of Contractor claims and subsequent payments are made in line with agreed tendered rates and timescales.
