We want to help you settle into your home as soon as possible. We work with Newcastle Furniture Service (NFS) so you can rent furniture for your home.

What furniture you can rent

You can choose what you need from NFS’s list of furniture.

NFS own the furniture and you rent it from them. They will repair your furniture for free. They will arrange with you to replace, reuse and recycle all items after 4 years for free.

If you want to return any furniture, you will need to provide 4 weeks’ notice that you want to end your contract and they will collect your furniture from you.

If you move to a different Gentoo property and want to take the furniture with you, contact NFS and they will arrange this for you.

How much it will cost

Each item of furniture has a points value. You can discuss the furniture you need with your Neighbourhood Co-ordinator and they will tell how much it will cost. The average cost is between £10 and £40 a week.

If you get Housing Benefit or Universal Credit, you may be able to use them to pay for some or all the costs. If you work or get other benefits, you may have to use your income to pay some or all the costs.

If you want to apply for the furniture scheme

The service is available to all our customers.

If you are a new customer, you can tell us you want to rent furniture as early as you need to, including when you are a viewing a property. But both new and current customers can apply whenever they want to.

Discounted essential household items with Stearn

We have partnered with Stearn to give customers access to discounted essential household items.

How the service works

Stearn have a range of items available to buy ranging from cookers to cutlery sets.

All orders must be placed directly with Stearn and paid for in full at the time of ordering. 

Once the order has been placed, Stearn will deliver the item(s) and collect old items free of charge the next working day.

If you experience any issues with the item(s), please call the manufacturer direct. Details will be included with the delivery note on the warranty instructions sheet.

How to place an order

  • After advising which item(s) you would like to order, Stearn will confirm the total cost
  • Stearn will confirm delivery date, however are unable to give a specific delivery time
