We have awarded £500 to North East Dementia Care through our Aspire Grant programme.
The donation has helped the group purchase supplies for their members to take part in crafts when attending the day centre and create leaflets to share more information about the service.
The centre is based in Pennywell shopping centre and is open to anyone who has dementia. It is a safe, secure space to spend the day with other members meeting new people, doing crafts, playing games and socialising.
Transport is provided to and from the centre for the members and is available to pick up any residents in the Sunderland area.
Nicole Falkner, Development Manager at North East Dementia Centre, said: “Thank you to the Gentoo Group for this donation, it has greatly supported us in getting our name out in the community to hopefully support more people living with Dementia in Sunderland.
“It has also funded craft materials for our craft sessions. Our members love getting creative, they all have so much fun whilst doing so and take pride in their creations.”
Susan Fulton, Executive Director of Customer, People & Engagement at Gentoo said: “Every Aspire Grant we provide contributes to our commitment of helping our local communities thrive.
“The centre does an amazing job to provide a safe and secure space for their members and we are delighted to support the work they do to help people with Dementia.”
Launched in 2003, Gentoo’s Aspire Grant programme offers grants of up to £500 and has benefited hundreds of local groups and organisations over the years. This includes art, music and drama clubs, toddler play groups, local football clubs, older people’s clubs and resident and community associations.
